Angry Printing from Linux locally or to a network printer

Ok, what do I do. First I set up a printer and shared it on a Windows box. I used Mandrake Control Centers' (I'm using Mandrake 9.1, KDE) hardware setup. Now using the printer setup, it actually finds the network printer automatically, and it sets up quite fine. But when I print a test page. It never prints. I use the CUPS www Admin page and I see the the jobs are just sitting there. So I give up after a day or so.

Then I take the printer and install it locally on my linux box. Same deal, sets up fine and all. I hit print , and nothing. I check the jobs page, and guess what, it's just sitting there.

In both instances, the Linux box says the printer is health, on-line and ready to go, but it can't get there. And the fact it can't print locally boggles me even more.

The printer is a HP deskjet 6122 (which works wonerfully in Windows XP), and although sets up easily in Mandrake, just will not print. Can ANYONE HELP!!! arrrrrrrggggggggg

What is the output of lpc --> status for the printer? Any clues in /var/log/cups log files?

printing

Drum,

In order to print, on a windows server you'll need to set up and configure samba. On a linux machine I would configure directly through the cups interface, using a web browser http://localhost:631, as my experience with configuring under kde, has been that not all printers on the list will work without adding additional drivers for the printer to be used.

Hope this helps,

Dave S.

no luck so far

Ii looks af if the output file for the printer is set to /dev/lp0. I did an autodetect and that's where it says it is found, which really doesn't seem right because it's an USB printer, (I'm using an HP Deskjet 6122). Now I tried to manually set it up on /dev/usb/lp0, and I get a "printer not connected" error when checking the status. When it is set on /dev/lp0 like it is detected as, the status is printer is ready, accepting jobs. But I can't get the stupid thing to print. What am I doing wrong? I used the WWW localhost thing in conjuction with Printerdrake in Mandrake Control Center to configure it, and nothing seems to work. Now, looking in the log files, truthfully, I can't tell what it all means. I cleared them out so I can get the latest errors without confusion of what is what.
Any Ideas?
thanks
