Printing from Cups to Samba

I have a linux print server setup to share itts printers via samba. It also does print billing useing the username of the user connecting to the printer.
This all works very well when printing from a windows workstation.

However I have now added some linux workstations and am trying to set them up to print to the same server.

The problem is that when I add a samba shared printer to the linux workstations, I need to enter a username and password that is used to connect to the server. This messes up my print billing because the same username is used to connect to the printer irrespective of who is requesting the print job.

Is there anyway I can set up cups so that it uses the usename and password of the current user to connect to the printer share?

Thanks
Murray

I gather you also set up your samba printer with CUPS underlying,
CUPS offers you IPP://
so why don't you cut out the samba layer and connect directly to the servers cups via ipp://
this should also work without messing your billing up.

I believe you need to mod the cupsd conf slightly

Hope it helps
