Printer share with Mandrake 10/Windows 95

Hi folks,

I have a Mandrake machine set up and printing to a Laserjet 5000 using cups. This bit works fine.

I need to print from Windows 95 using a shared printer set-up.

I have had Samba and networking set-up for years with Red Hat server and numerous other Linux and Windows machines, so I'm not a total newbie.

AFAIK, I have gone into Print Drake and set up the Laserjet 5000 to be shared using cups (which someone on here recommended).

From my Windows 95 machine, while trying to add a printer, I can browse to my Mandrake box, but cannot see the (allegedly) shared printer.

My smb.conf file printer section is as follows:

[printers]
comment = All Printers
path = /var/spool/samba
browseable = yes
# to allow user 'guest account' to print.
guest ok = yes
writable = no
printable = yes
create mode = 0700
# =====================================
# print command: see above for details.
# =====================================
print command = lpr-cups -P %p %s # using cups own drivers (use generic PostScript on clients).
print command = lpr-cups -P %p %s # using cups own drivers (use generic PostScript on clients).
lpq command = lpstat -o %p
lprm command = cancel %p-%j

Anyone any suggestions as to why the Windows machine can't see the printer?

BTW, I have set up a user account for the Windows 95 box. I've set up user password and smbpassword which was previously stopping my from even trying to brwose the Mandrake machine from the Windows machine.

Many thanks,

Rob

OK, just in case anyone cares, I've sussed it. It would seem it's not, as someone here stated, a case of cups taking care of it all.

I added the following to smb.conf and it works a treat. :~)

[LJ5000]

valid users = pcad95
printer = LJ5000
public = yes
writeable = no
printable = yes
