Prevent reset of network settings reset after cable unplug

Hi everybody,

whenever my ethernet cable gets unplugged my ifconfig and route settings gets resetted and I have to set them back up, which is pretty annoying sometimes. How can I prevent this?

Are you using a networking manager? They should help configure your network when it comes online again.

No I don't.

Maybe I'm running something that resets the settings everytime the cable gets unplugged, but I have no clue how to check that.

What distro are you running? I am guessing default behavior for an ethernet controller is DHCP, and I assume that isn't what you want.

I'm using Slackware 13.37
