practicing to configure multipathd on virtual

how would I simulate on any virtual environment (VMware/VBox/ KVM/QEmu) setup of SAN, SAN switches and 2 HBA cards connected to the SAN switches so that I can be good at configuring multipathd?

Would you like to simulate complete SAN hardware? Do i understand this correctly? This will be impossible. E.g. Virtual disks in VMWare ESX are recognized as SCSI disks by the VM, indepently from how they are configured (vmdk-file or indenpendent LUN) or what technology is underlying (local disks, local scsi storage, ISCSI, SAN). Multipathing is done by the hypervisor OS not by the VM. Not sure how other hypervisor will manage this , but i think the same way.
