PPTP Packets from the VPN Client Cannot Reach the VPN server

I have a VPS that I am trying to setup a PPTP VPN on. When I try to connect with ubuntu it simply say it will not connect. When I use Win 7, it gives the error " PPTP Packets from the VPN Client Cannot Reach the VPN server." Nmap tells me port 1723 is indeed open. It is a VPS so I am rather knowledgeable about its networking. Ifconfig gives me this:
Code:

lo        Link encap:Local Loopback
          inet addr:127.0.0.1  Mask:255.0.0.0

In my /etc/pptpd.conf I put this for my network:
Code:

localip 206.217.142.122
remoteip 206.217.142.122

My /etc/ppp/chap-secrets is in the format of:
Code:

USERNAME * PASSWORD *
(Spaces between each word)

So obviously something is wrong, I just don't what it is. I am quite new at vpn'ing so all help is appreciated.

First thing I notice is that you have the same local ip as remote ip, you will want to alter that, at least by one address. Don't know if that's causing your problem, though it potentially could be.
