pppoe setup in KDE

Hi all -

Just a bit of background - my distro is Linux Mint (Ubuntu-based, with a Gnome desktop). Net connection is PPPoE.

I have no problems connecting to the net when using Gnome in any distro (whether it be in Mint or with the Knoppix DVD(the Knoppix DVD has Gnome). However, I do have a problem when trying to connect when using KDE as the desktop.

In Knoppix (with KDE), there is the ADSL/PPPoE config utility. That detects eth0 (which is correct), but the additional scanning that it does is unsuccessful. I've scanned the forum here and have seen at least one other person with this problem.

An important note - when I boot Knoppix, it detects eth0, but the boot process tries to use *DHCP* (which I know is wrong).

I've also tried to use kppp (which I realise is mainly aimed at dialup, but it does have the options to set a static IP address (which I have), as well as the subnet mask, gateway, DNS). No luck with kppp.

When I successfully set up my net connection in Gnome, the utility gives the option to change from DHCP to (iirc) a manual setup, but nowhere in KDE does there seem to be a way to disable DHCP. ( If there's a way to do that in the shell, I'm happy to use that - I'm very comfortable in the shell.).

So, to summarise -
* In Gnome, I enter my IP address, subnet mask, gateway, DNS, and can change from DHCP to manual, and I connect successfully.
* Knoppix (on booting), detects eth0, but uses DHCP with it (wrong).
* IN KDE, I can enter the above info (in kppp) but can't connect.

Here's my network info obtained using the "lshw" utility -

*** Start of network info ***
id:
network description: Ethernet interface

vendor: VIA Technologies, Inc.
physical id: 12

capacity: 100MB/s
width: 32 bits

capabilities: pm bus_master cap_list ethernet physical tp mii 10bt 10bt-fd 100bt 100bt-fd autonegotiation
configuration:
autonegotiation = on
broadcast = yes
driver = via-rhine
driverversion = 1.2.0-2.6

ip = ( I've hidden this - it is correct, anyway )
latency = 64
link = yes
maxlatency = 8
mingnt = 3
module = via_rhine
multicast = yes
port = MII
speed = 100MB/s
*** End of network info ***

So, I'm suspecting that dhcp may be the culprit. Does anyone know how I can disable dhcp in KDE? ( If I have to dig-around using the command-line, that's fine.). Very many thanks in advance!
