PPPoE Server

Dear All
I have a redhat 9 machin with kernel 2.4.20-8. I am trying to setup and configur this machin as a PPPOE server, so that all the PPPOE clients can dial to establish a PPPOE connection to get to the Internet.

I googled the Internet, but I have not found a PPPOE server free open source or any instruction to setup it. All what I found is a PPPOE Client that can dial to an ADSL modem.

Later, I found that the redhat 9 does support an experimental PPPOE server but there there is no any source information or documented steps on how to configure it.

I would be greatful and thankful if you helped me by me to a PPPOE open source package or on a documneted step on how to configure the one that comes with the redhat 9.

I went through the man page of pppoe-server and read all the instructions there and I issued the following command:

Code:
pppoe-server -I eth1 -T 50 -S PalAMG -m 1412 -s -L 128.1.1.1 -R 128.1.250.250
and when I tried to establish a pppoe connection from a windows xp, the connection stucked in the "Verifying username and password" and after the time out I got Error 619.

my eth1 IP is 10.0.0.1

So would you guy help me in solving this problem?

Regards
Bassam

Hey,

I had the same problem. Initially, what I did to fix it was put "noauth" in the pppoe-server.options file... This allowed me to connect with any login/password I wanted from my Windows box (because there was no authentication)

Try that with yours and see what happens... If that turns out to be the problem, turn on PAP by putting the following in the pppoe-server.options file:

auth
require-pap
login

Now, add a linux user with the login/password you want the PPPoE client to use... Put an entry into your pap-secrets file (I had to specify the IP address too, 10.67.15.6 or something)

Once your linux user and pap-secrets file match up, and you've put the required entries in pppoe-server.options, you should be good to go... It worked for me anyways

Regards,
Joshua
