Unhappy PPPoE - ASDL

Hi... I'm pretty new to Linux, and I'm trying to get my ASDL internet connection up and running.
I can't get Linux (I'm using RedHat 7.0 on my home computer) to recognize my ethernet card. I'm using a D-Link DFE 350TX.
It IS listed when I type "lspci -v", but when I use the "insmod" command to try and install the "via-rhine.o" driver, it returns an error saying "Device busy".
I don't get it, I can't find any documents that mention this problem, they all assume that the "insmod" command will work.
Plug'n'play is indeed disabled in the CMOS setup, like all the docs say it should be.
Oh and I've added a line to "/etc/modules.conf" that says
alias eth0 via-rhine

and yet, the eth0 device doesn't exist...

what am i doing wrong?

Thumbs up oops.

ermm.. yeah, sorry, typo... :-)

D-Link DFE-530TX PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter (Rev. A)

i think it's a pretty standard card, i don't know why i'm having so much trouble getting Linux to recognize it.

I'm running Mandrake, which is supposed to be similar. Can't say for sure but seems to me that the line in modules.conf ought to result in the module being loaded at boot. Take a look at root prompt:
# lsmod
to see if maybe your driver is loaded.

Assuming you're good to go there, I would recommend you get rp-pppoe installed, if it is not already (rpmfind.net, et al). Then as root, do
# adsl-setup
You will be asked for your isp's domain (e.g. mindspring.com) a DNS server or two, login name and password. Go with defaults, otherwise and
# adsl-start
ought to get you connected.

If all this works, put adsl-start at the bottom of /etc/rc.d/rc.local to have the connection made at boot.

HTH.
