pppd and kppp, can't connect: stuck with NO CARRIER

I looked around but could not find anything useful.
I'm using Slackware 10.2 kernel 2.6.13 on a laptopt with slmodem using slmodemd --alsa -c USA modem:1.

The problem:
Everytime I try to connect to internet either with kppp or pppd, both exit with the NO CARRIER error.
I really need some ideas on how to solve this. Possibly to write a connection script for pppd as a workaround? But I have no idea where to begin and what to write.
I will post a Windows XP modem log, but it is not helping me because I don't know how to read it...
Following is the log I got from Windows XP modem logging the last time I connected to internet (see also the end for a NO CARRIER response of windows xp). I am posting this hoping that it could be a base to a script you could help me with for pppd:

I also found an entry (of a previous dial in) in that log where Windows encounters a NO CARRIER signal (?) (line 4):

And here is the entire log for that "NO CARRIER" session (you can see NO CARRIER on line 28 from the end of the log):

try it by by passing an iniatilization string 2 as at+crm=1
and also uncheck 'use lock file' in device tab.
