Hello!
At some point last night, my internet connection stopped working. I am fairly certain that it is a software problem because my hub is showing a working ethernet connection to the computer.
When I run 'adsl-status', I receive the message:
'Link is down -- could not find interface corresponding to pppd pid 17665'
Used to happen to me sometimes.
Pull out the cable of the modem/hub and replug it. Then try to reestablish the connection. If this connection problem presists then have your modem swapped. I had to call my ISP and they replaced my modem with a new one that rarely dies. The old one used to crash alot.
Thank you both for your suggestions. I guess it was a hardware thing, after all. I rebooted the modem and all was well (the most obvious indicator that it wasn't linux was that my work XP laptop was also not connecting through to the internet, and it, too, was showing as OK on my hub.)
