ppp0 default route

This is probably a really simple problem but after searching I cant find an answer. I have an internal hardware modem and a network card, both working fine. After the modem has dialled up I cant access anything on the internet because eth0 is recognised as the default route. I can fix this by logging on as root and issuing

route -add default ppp0

everything works fine after this until ppp0 goes down. There is probably a line to add to some config file to make this fix permanent but there I am stuck.

My system is Ubuntu Warty fresh install running on a cupboard full of parts.
any help would be appreciated.

not too sure about ubuntu, but I guess the ppp impementation is pretty standard. In your ppp config file (on my debian system its in /etc/ppp/options), just plug in or uncomment the 'defaultroute' line. The route will be added and removed automagically as the link goes up and down.

For more info... 'man pppd'.
