ppp dialin server for mysql

i want to set up a linux box as dial in server. i want to connect by modem to it and have access to my mysql database.
i think first i have to follow easily the ppp server how-to, but when i have set it all up with login...

do i have then really access to my database as if i'm connected to through a network that i can easily use IP addresses to access and login to it?

very much thanks in advance!!
