Postfix/Procmail multiple recipent handling problem

Hello everyone.

Before I start - i've RTFM'd and STFW'd - and i'm still lost!

I have set up a mail server, using Qpopper for client mail retrieval, Postfix for collection of Pop3 mail from my ISP and Procmail to pass mail to one of several user mailboxes in /var/mail.

Qpopper works fine, Procmail works fine, and postfix works fine - until someone tries to send a message with multiple recipients in the TO: field (or any other for that matter).

The ISP is demon, so it doesn't put an X-Envelope in the header - therefore i can't use the X-Envelope fix to deal with this issue.

The server is running Suse 9.2.

From what i've gathered - what i want to do can be done using aliases or virtual mailboxes - but I haven't the first clue how to.

Qpopper works no matter what - so i know the issue has nothing to do with that - so if someone could give me a step by step of how to set either Postfix or Procmail up to make it work correctly, i'd be extremely grateful.

my recipes are in the standard format:

:0:
^TO_x@xyz.com
user1

Any other information people need to work out what the issue is - please ask.

Thank you in advance

David

So, just so I understand correctly... you've got multiple users on the box already set up. An email to a single individual on the box works fine.. do you have a catchall procmail rule, like:
Code:
:0:
$DEFAULT
or are all your procmail rules specific to a user, such as your example, like:
Code:
:0:
* ^To.*bobbarker@priceisright\.com
/var/spool/mail/bobbarker

:0:
* ^To.*patsajak@wheeloffortune\.com
/var/spool/mail/patsajak
?

I have a feeling that the issue stems from the procmail rules... but that is based mostly on a guess at this point. I guess I need to know more about how procmail's recipes are set, overall.

I don't have a catch-all recipe set up, just individual recipies for each user.

There are users set up for each mailbox.

And yes, e-mails to a single individual are working fine, however if you send one to say - user1@x.com user2@x.com, user3@x.com, and user1 is covered by the first recipe, then user1 will get 3 copies of the same e-mail.

Hope this clarifies
