pop3 and smtp ports on squid

Dear all, i m new to linux and trying to use redhat linux 9 as my proxy server for internet sharing. i m using squid for this purpose and it is working fine for http browsing and ftp but pop3 and smtp ports are not working. in other words i m not able to receive my mails via outlook because it cannot connect to my external pop3 server. is there any way to enable outlook to use squid or linux box to just receive and send emails. i hope u ppl understand my question.

Make sure you have iptables rules to SNAT or MASQUERADE the outgoing connections for smtp & pop3, (ports 25 & 110)
You don't need them for the proxy as it's on the internet connection box.
