Angry point to point protocol

Hi,

I have a server which has only one ethernet port and is not connected to any device by serial cable.

However, when I run the command "ifconfig", then I see an output as below:

ppp0 Link encap:Point-to-Point Protocol
inet addr:192.168.234.235 P-t-P:192.168.234.236 Mask:255.255.255.255
UP POINTOPOINT RUNNING NOARP MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets:236464 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:237288 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:3

Do you have any idea where this IP could have been mentioned (in which configuration file ) ?

I checked /etc/ppp directory, but it is not mentioned there at all....
I am

well it needs to be determined where it is getting that IP from ..

that is a production server....so I cannot shutdown the interface so easily...

look in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts for an ifcfg-* file that may correspond to PPPoE. If it is an active link, it must be coming from a DSL provider.

PPP - it is a internal modem, which is ready to dial a number or just start communicate.
It is "back door" into your server, someone needs connect it to a phone line and it will be enough to have access to your server.

Where did it get IP - from last session.

If it doesn't use, someone have to shutdown its interface.

That is what I think.
