Plug status undetected for eth0

I have recently converted to mandrake 10.
System installation went fine with the exeption of ethernet interface.
During boot up, my system fails to bring up my eth0 interface. On inspecting syslog,it shows ifplugd-plug status for eth0 undetected. However,if I configure a new connection using same options and restart network, it works fine. But rebooting again it gives the same problem. Please help
