hi guys,
i am new to linux .i have jus installed redhat linux.can u peoplejus help me set up the net connection
i want from basics.i have configed it as how i configed in windows but i keep getting error in linux.can anyone help me

What version of Linux did you install? Redhat 9 or like Fedora 6? If you've installed Redhat 9 I suggest you try Fedora 6, which is Redhat's replacemant for Redhat 9. If that dosen't sovle your problem we'll have to delve deeper.

You should always keep meaningfull & more usefull thread headers(something that describes your problem within that much space)

You still haven't given enough info for people to be able to help you. We're not at your machine, so don't know what the errors you're getting are, or anything about your connection. Please give us as much information as you can.

I would suggest trying a live-evaluation distribution of linux such as pclinuxOS or SimplyMepis. Make sure your bios settings will boot from the CD-ROM, insert the CD with all of your internet equipment turned on and connected, then reboot your computer. If your internet connection uses DHCP (dynamic and not static IP address), it should be recognized and configured for you. Then it is an easy matter to install it to your hard drive. I have never installed RHEL (Red Hat Enterprise Linux), but if you are using DHCP, I would have expected it to similarly recognize and configure your ethernet settings as long as you had your computer connected to your internet equipment at the time you attempted the installation.

I am assuming you are using broadband connection (cable modem or DSL). If you are using a phone line (dial-up) modem, your problem may be that you are using a winmodem which requires information provided by a microsoft windows operating system to function. You can often get around this problem by installing an available linux-compatible driver.

You should inform everyone what type of hardware you are using to connect to the internet.

Please post the answers to the questions we ask. We're here to share data together. So...what connection do YOU have to access the internet? Do YOU use a router? The "live" Distro's are easiest. However, if YOU setup Networking during the installation procedure, most Linux Distro's will configure the DHCP for YOU. So YOU can go online after first boot-up.
