Please recommend a European “Registrar”

Thank you in advance

...

Okay, and please let us say that OVH, Ghandi and „Strato“ do not exist for this exchange.

...

... and that only a bank-transfer from a French or German bank, alternatively a che(ck|que), sent by snail-mail are acceptable to me. This is a must, I do not pay online, do not even have a credit card and : NEVER WILL.

Edit: And I do not depend enough from the Internet to bother much about the disposal of my domain. So, Not-having-a-domain is a valid solution. My current Registrar is a nuisance, I have to explain technical details to the support before they can even try to understand any trouble – usually with their configuration interface – that I may have,

Thank youhou

There must be literally tens if not hundreds of them in each country.

The ones I've dealt with are happy send you an invoice annually, either by snail mail or as a PDF via e-mail if you so prefer, with their bank account number. How you get the money into that account is entirely up to you.

Tucows/OpenSRS...either become a reseller with them, or connect with one of their resellers...(like me)..I’m more than happy to manage registration with a payment by check...they’ll take ACH deposits directly.

What kind of “support” issues are you having with your current registrar? Registering a domain should be very straightforward and a once a year thing. Is the issue with their DNS interface?

Please give us more information...

PS...they’re based in Canada

Don't know about payment methods though.

Thank you very much.

All your pointers are taken into consideration. For an unknown reason, my searches in the French language have produced only recommendations for American and British companies, which, all the same, looked good until I had to ask for their payment methods.

Your answers correspond more with my own expectations.

More (boring) detail, then. But only about my current troubles, there were many different ones during recent years, but all support-related (I wished I could use a style="overflow:scroll;").
The procedure to renew my domain does not look different from the previous. However, they have been obliged to modify their Data-Protection Agreement after the Brexit. Subsidiaries of the company are located in Britain and, thus, had to be considered apart from the rest of the group. In the end, this change has no influence on me, but I have to confirm lecture and agreement with the document prior renewal of my domain.

Having already checked the case for the General Conditions, I want to read the new data-protection agreement and get a 404. Not knowing about its content, yet, I try again later. 404, even after verifying cookies, Java-Script blocks, changing browsers and what not.

I contact the support about the difficulty.

The answer is completely off-topic, explaining that my service were suspended, because I have not (yet) given consent to automatic bank-transfer, an option which I had once chosen but never agreed with. I pay by pre-payment, i.e. fill-up an “account” to about 100€ regularly and by check. There are other services concerned and this sum covers about three to four months of service.

So, I had to write a second message, stating the obvious, that my service is *not* suspended and that my payment-method has nothing to do with the fact that their PDF-file containing the data-protection agreement is inaccessible.

I get an answer explaining where and how to confirm lecture and agreement with the document.
(I begin searching Registrars)

My next message contains the request to have the data-protection agreement sent by snail-mail. They give me the URL (imagine) to the document that I can finally consult. On the 10 pages there is absolutely nothing new for me. All concerns British clients or those who are otherwise concerned by the new situation after the Brexit. I check the agreement and finally choose to renew my domain for another 2 years.

The validate-button does not work.

For two days I fear the response of the support-team to this simple statement. I get the impression that my choice of the pre-payed account, which is again part of the transaction to “validate”, has again surprised the Web-interface. Maybe I am the only customer who uses it...

I took netcup. And I just switched to a German speaking configuration interface. Quite a change... ;)
