Ok, here's what I'm trying to do. I have a dsl modem, but that only has one ethernet connection so I plug that directly into my Linksys router so I can have multiple connections. The DSL modem is a DHCP server so I disable the DHCP server in the Linksys and also in the linksys enable the router function instead of the gateway (In the firmware, there is an option to have the router act a gateway or router).
Here's my problem. In windows the Internet works fine, but in Ubuntu Linux it works intermittenly. Sometimes it works and others it doesn't....mostly doesn't work. The weird thing is that I know the NIC is working properly because I can always ping
www.yahoo.com or google.com. The internet browser is where the problem is and I have tried multiple browsers. I also have a laptop with Linux and it has the exact same problem as the server.
Does anyone have any idea about this problem. I am so frustrated...I have spent a while trying to set this up. Also is the way I have the linksys router setup the best way...meaning disabling the DHCP server and using the DHCP server from the DSL modem? I didn't know which way is best, but this way seems to work with Windows computers....but I have a server and need linux to work as well.
