ping Destination host unreachable from Ubuntu 10.10
Hi all,
I'm a Ubuntu 10.10 64 bits user.
I have a media hard disk connected by wifi to my router.
When I do a ping from my laptop to the router the result is ok, but when I do a ping to the hard disk the result is "Destination host unreachable".
To try to solve, I connect the laptop to the hard disk by windows then the ping result is ok. Then I restart the laptop and connect from Ubuntu, and the ping is ok and I can see the media hard disk folders.
After a few days returns the problem.
Also, I was trying to ping from the router from the console and the result was ok, but, if I do ping from the System->Administration-> Net tool, the result is lost packets.
Hi Jefro,
The media hard drive, is a Storex Aivx 370HD, whith "wifi n", FTP server, Samba, etc.
The ping is by ip adress (ping 192.168.2.4).
The hard drive network configuration is:
IP: 192.168.2.4
Netmask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.2.1
DNS: 192.168.2.1
The IP 192.168.2.1 is the router IP.
I hate to keep asking dumb sounding questions. Normally there is no difference between a ping in windows and a ping in linux. This is the reason I am kind of stumped.
Could it be that windows is somehow configuring the device?
I thought that, but the windows vista installed is the fresh windows installed with the laptop, and no there software specific for the media hard drive, but windows if I do click in "My network site", directly find the media hard drive and I can see the hard drive.
And with is the difference in ubuntu between a console ping and System->Administration-> Net tools-> Ping?
