pcmcia network configuration on dell laptop using Peanut 9.6

i need help editing some files to get a wireless pcmcia card (netgear ma401) to be configured on boot up on a Dell laptop (CPX HG500) running Peanut Linux 9.6.

if have tried the commands etherset and netconfig. they take all the configuration information i input but when i reboot the network card will not connect until i input a set of command line inputs (see PROCEDURE BELOW):

i can't find the files to edit manually. normally i would just edit the file /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 to look like

DEVICE=eth0
USERCTL=no
ONBOOT=yes
BOOTPROTO=none
BROADCAST=192.168.0.255
NETWORK=192.168.0.0
NETMASK=255.255.255.0
IPADDR=192.168.0.5

and the file /etc/sysconfig/network to look like

NETWORKING=yes
HOSTNAME=name.host.net
FORWARD_IPV4=yes
GATEWAYDEV=
GATEWAY=192.168.1.1

**************************************************************
PROCEDURE (cut and paste from command, "history"
**************************************************************
123 lsmod | more NOTE: ORINOCO_CS IS NOT LOADED)
124 history | less
125 (TYPO DELETED)
126 (TYPO DELETED)
127 modprobe orinoco_cs
128 ifconfig -a
129 cardmgr
130 ifconfig -a
131 ifconfig eth0 192.168.0.5 netmask 255.255.255.0
132 route add default gw 192.168.0.1

make sure pcmcia scripts run before the network scripts. Slackware does it properly, RedHat/Fedora does not.

You can put those commands that you have to type into rc.local but that is only a temp solution.

pcmcia_core not present on boot

Thanks for the suggestion. I am pretty sure that my pcmcia_core is not present when I boot up (command lsmod). I have found some documentation for Peanut for 9.6. I think these instructions are out of date. The lines in the file referenced below (rc.S) are not present. I know that older vesions of Peanut delayed configuring PCMCIA until after the install. Does anyone know where the correct lines/files might have been relocated?

Quote:
If you have a PCMCIA modem or any PCMCIA device it should be detected during
bootup from /ect/rc.d/rc.pcmcia. First remove the three '#'s below in:
/etc/rc.d/rc.S file, then maybe look in /etc/pcmcia, make some changes to
any of the "*.opts" (options) files, then reboot.

---Start of /etc/rc.d/rc.S-----------------------------

#if [ -x /etc/rc.d/rc.pcmcia ]; then
# . /etc/rc.d/rc.pcmcia start
#fi
--------- End of-/etc/rc.d/rc.S------------------------

Run 'NETWORK' from your 'peanut setup' for PCMCIA net connecting lastly.
