are you trying to connect from your ubuntu to windows/cygwin? I need your ssh error logs from cygwin if so.

The XWin.0.log is the only error log file that I can find - and I wasn't getting any errors when trying to log into the Ubuntu machine from cygwin so there may not be any? I'll keep looking around for one with error messages, though!
