password for printer


Hi All,
I want to give some username & password security to my printer so that any user want to print something,must give username and password.
How can i do this...
please help me

I'm not sure.
Maybe you could try looking into PAM modules.
They set up security per application.

If it's a printer contacted from multiple machines, ie via samba or something, you can try that too.

"tcpwrappers" may be your friend as well.

If all else fails, you can also try making the print command (depends on the printing system you're using, ie Cups)
owned by a specific user (you'll need to create that user), so that users will need to login as that user before
they can actually execute it.

Maybe your printing system already provides such a security mechanism.
