Packet Types on Linux as well as Windows

I know that on Linux to Linux machine communication how many types of packets can travel??
Consider RedHat Linux 9 with i386 architecture. I know that IP,TCP,UDP are the main basic protocols with packet type ETH_P_IP Ethernet frame. and Also for ARP,RARP different Ethernet frames are used.
Now what am i want to ask is that Is that same for windows OS and what about then DNS
Packets are they also IP packets on Linux and windows???
What about NetBEuI packets that travels across windows?? How they are collected by Linux OS and in which format???

DNS uses UDP. So it's Ethernet->IP->UDP->DNS. DNS can also use TCP, for instance when a reply is greater than 512 bytes.

Perhaps start here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NetBEUI or here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OSI_model and remember that netbeui is implemnted over TCP/IP nowadays.

Good Luck,
chris
