OpenDNS+Xubuntu (New Question)
I deleted the original post I had made in replace of another one. (Original question was solved.)
I have OpenDNS set up and it appears to be working.
Here are my questions.
I have the OpenDNS servers, which are 208.67.222.222 and 208.66.220.220 set up fine in the Network Settings under DNS Servers.
The one question related to that is that my ISP's external address keeps popping up, even when I delete it, (Not my IP address, theirs.) Is this normal?
Also right under that I have the "Search Domains" Do I have to keep "MYISPSurl.com?" If not, then how do I get rid of it. Every time I delete it it comes back when I reboot.
Sorry, this is probably a newbie question. But I never tried OpenDNS before and I really would like to understand it better.
So if anyone has thoughts, opinions or experiences with OpenDNS please share them.

The OpenDNS question above is new. So this reply is not needed but I can't seem to delete it.

I Figured out the problem. I have to set my IP Address, subnet, Gateway as static. I tried this before and it didn't work. But I also had Privoxy installed. So for some reason it would not let me connect when I set it up as static address. I stopped using Privoxy and it works fine. I have been working on this for some hours, so the why's don't matter. As long as it works the way I want it to I am happy.
Menu>system>network: In roaming I would keep getting my two ISP's DNS servers, etc. in Automatic Configuration DHCP mode the same thing happened. When I rebooted my ISP's DNS servers would always be back. Which really messed up my attempts to use the OpenDNS network shortcuts. But having it set as static. I have no problems, my ISP's DNS servers are gone and stay gone and can use the OpenDNS Network short cuts without issue. I will just have to manually change it when needed.

if your clients' /etc/resolv.conf look right when using static IP, but not when using DHCP, check the DHCP server. Look at the /etc/dhcp3/dhcpd.conf file (or wherever your dhcpd.conf file might live). You'll probably find your ISPs domain servers in there.
Another possibility is to look in your client /etc/dhcp3/dhclient.conf files (on each client) to make sure domain-name-server obtained from DHCP isn't being overwritten there by your ISPs nameservers.

I am half asleep. But I had to check that out.
I already edited the /etc/dchp3/dhclient.conf and put the OpenDNS ones in its place.
The following are the only ones active in dhclient.conf,
Quote:
send host-name "<hostname>";
timeout 30;
prepend domain-name-servers 208.67.222.222,208.66.220.220;
|
I don't see a /etc/dhcp3/dhcpd.conf, there is only the dhclient.conf and the dhclient.conf~, could dhcpd.conf be in a different location? Though I need to sleep before I try any more with this. Even my computer is starting to yawn .

the dhcpd.conf file will be found on your dhcp server, not on your clients.
