Lightbulb Open Source / Free solutions for network traffic quota management, please?

Fellas,

Please, what are the known open source / free approaches for providing network traffic quotas in a LAN, as in managing the amount of data each host is able to send/receive in a specific period of time (i.e. day or month)?

I've tried pfSense and Smoothwall, but haven't been successful in those - they only do regular traffic shapping.
Also came across the quota module for iptables, so was wondering if any newer distros (such as CentOS 7 or Ubuntu 15.4) come with iptables already powered by the quota module.

Any hints?

Thanks a lot.
Best regards,

Thales.
