One-way ping

I have problems with one of my computers (which is a laptop running linux), the problem is that it can't ping itself but it can the other machine (the desktop, running linux at the time).

My network setup is:

Desktop:
192.168.100.1

Laptop:
192.168.100.2

Which run through a 5-port Ethernet Switch (I'm planning to hook up more machines soon)

I done all the ping tests successfully from the desktop. But the laptop can't ping itself.

I've the following on the laptop:
Code:
ping 192.168.100.1
ping 192.168.100.2
ping 127.0.0.1
The first ping works

The second ping on the laptop comes up with the following error:
Code:
connect: Network is unreachable
The third ping on the laptop comes up with:
Code:
connect: Invalid agrument

Thumbs up

ME SLAPS MYSELF

really simple problem to solve

For anyone else who has had this problem here's a possible solution:
Code:
ifconfig lo 127.0.0.1
Type that in at the console and it should solve your one-way ping problem.
