Ok transferring large files, but not smaller files

Hello friends,

I have a server with Intel Pro 1000 MT running samba. When transferring large files (100mb-50gb+), it is working fine. When transferring a bunch of smaller files (jpgs, docs, etc), the server NIC would disconnect and stop to respond to ping from another machine within a few minutes of transfer. At the meanwhile, checking from the server console, pinging itself looks ordinary. Have anyone seen anything like this before? Thank you

Let me point out that you don't go through the NIC when you ping yourself.

Perhaps these questions help you:
Can you ping from the server to somewhere else?
Do you see anything in the system log?
Do you see anything in the Samba logs?
The location of those logs depends on the distro and the Samba configuration.

check out this thread to check connectivity to the other server:

As berndbausch suggests, check the logs. Or it could just be a network cable going south which causes intermittent issues.
