odd mandriva issue

For some strange reason since I upgraded to mandrake 10.2....
I can get on the internet just fine via dsl.. however, if I try to have a server of any kind running on the machine... it refuses every inbound connection.
Has no firewall as an experiement and the correct ports are forwarded on the dsl modem
I do also have the oddity of in the 'alter miscellaneous internet settings' that it says it's not connected.

It's seeming to me that the system believes itself to be on a network.. but.. not on the internet and is thusly refusing inbound connections *from* the internet.

Any ideas?

Am I mis-reading this?

Never had the issue til I upgraded. Set everything up exactly like before.. or.. as best I could as I'd used 'linuxconf' to set everything up before.

By default Mandriva probably sets the firewall to block inbound connections for security reasons. If you want to change this either go into the firewall configuration program in the Mandrake Control Centre->Security or edit the shorewall config files directly and restart shorewall, as described here: http://www.shorewall.net/Documentation_Index.html
