I'm trying to get the eth0 interface running on a ShuttleX machine that has Windows xp home installed in a dual boot system with Mandrake 9.1. Linux reports that the device does not exist. When I try to set up the LAN with the GUI set up tool the ethernet hardware is not detected unless I do advance mode and then it reports the NVIDIA imbedded ethernet without any parameters. When I do cat /proc/pci I do get a listing for an ethernet device. How do I get the kernel to know that there should be an eth0 interface? I've had to create ifcfg-eth0 and enter the info. I've edited modules.conf and when I do route it still doesn't show up. If I restart the network it comes up but not with [ok]. If I do route again it still doesn't show up. Do I have to reinstall or recompile and install the kernel with specific support?
The solution is quite simple - you have to switch in your motherboard`s bios PnP/PCI menu the PNP OS Installed element off, and download the newest drivers from nVidia site >>> http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_nforce_1.0-0261 - here they are... Then you install the rmp and everything should be ok...
Dear cArLoOs:
Thankyou I have already found and installed the NVIDIA driver for the ethernet. I did it from a tarball. There was also some editing to the script that loads modules at boot.
