NTP Problems
 

OK - I have NTP and NTPDATE installed on my Debian machine however my time is 4 hours off. I thought having NTPD and NTPDATE would resolve these issues. Anyone know how to correct these problems?

Is it EXACTLY 4 hours off? If it is, I think your timezone settings are wrong.
If not, NTPD should fix the time gradually (if it is running and correctly configured).

Yes, it seems to be exactly 4 hours off. My time zone is NY (-5 Eastern Time) since I am in FL (East Coast). When I right click my time on the desktop and select "Adjust Data & Time" and then it asks me for ROOTS password. I then verify that "Sync clock with internet servers" is checked and then in my list I have both my time servers checked/selected but the time is still 4 hours off.

sounds like your hardware clock is set to UTC when it should be localtime. what time servers are you using?


p.s. is that sig really necessary? it could really screw someone up. it seems a little arrogant for someone to be asking for help who is putting something like that in their sig that could really harm someone and cause them a lot of trouble.
