NTOP, need help

Hi All,

I am kinda new with NTOP. Just installled it and it looks a bit messy. If anyone of you is using NTOP i do have few questions for you:

1. Is it posible for NTOP to (manually or auto) generate a report, for example: "I want to see all TCP traffic on that device from this time to that time (in the past)".

2. Can NTOP support probes, for example, apart of the local traffic i want to see the traffic on other devices on diffferent sites as well.

3. Is there any new updated manual on internet for NTOP, all i have found so far are few years old...

Thank You

1. all it provides is there in the menu's. there are no extractable reports last time i used it extensively.

2. yes, it is primarily a NetFlow collector, amongst other things, so cisco boxes can chuck dta at it easily. Additionally there are open source ipfix / netflow generators out there, ipflow being on afair, which can create that data on any linux platform

3. don't believe so, it's pretty ropey in places isn't it?

it's a bit of a shame in that ntop can do so so many excellent things but is let down in just as many areas. it doesn't archive data permanently, it crashes a lot, it just doesn't cut it as a professional tool, which is what it wants to be. there is nothing else that can get near it within the open source arena at the same time though.

hmmm, thanks for your answers. We are using a statseeker which does all these things but it is not free. I was hoping to replace it with an Open source software but i guess i'll stick with it...

Thank You
