nslookup by ip problem - Bind 9 Debian Sarge

Hello,

I am having a problem resolving addresses by ip. it looks like it is resolving but adds extra information to the end of what it resolves. The first nslookup is normal, the 2nd & 3rd nslookup's are incorrect. Can anyone help me find out why this extra info is being added. Maybe i have not configured this completely?

Example. (extra info is highlighted)

TEST-INTERCOM:~# clear
TEST-INTERCOM:~# nslookup 192.168.105.10
Server: 10.0.0.12
Address: 10.0.0.12#53

10.105.168.192.in-addr.arpa name = intercom.*******.com.

-----------------------------

TEST-INTERCOM:~# nslookup 192.168.105.15
Server: 10.0.0.12
Address: 10.0.0.12#53

15.105.168.192.in-addr.arpa name = intercom-test.*******.com.105.168.192.in-addr.arpa.
-----------------------------

TEST-INTERCOM:~# nslookup 192.168.105.16
Server: 10.0.0.12
Address: 10.0.0.12#53

16.105.168.192.in-addr.arpa name = busdev-test.*******.com.105.168.192.in-addr.arpa.

HERE ARE THE ZONE FILES:

Forward Zone:

$TTL 600 ; 10 minutes
busdev-test A 192.168.105.16
intercom A 192.168.105.10
intercom-test A 192.168.105.15

Reverse Zone:

MACHINE:/opt/build/bind-9.3.1/zones# vi 192.168.105.reverse
2 PTR mailer-daemon.*******.com.
4 PTR seth.*******.com
10 PTR intercom.*******.com.
12 PTR www.*******.com.
15 PTR intercom-test.*******.com
16 PTR busdev-test.*******.com

Thank you in advance for any help that can be given.

Wow! its been awhile but here goes. What happens if you put a period after the first field? For example:

Code:
16. PTR busdev-test.*******.com
Then restart named and try your nslookup again. Let me know if that works?

Regards,
Fordeck

Thanks for the reply, but no dice this time.

I did as you suggested:

16. PTR busdev-test.*******.com

Here is the output:

TEST-INTERCOM:~# nslookup 192.168.105.16
Server: 10.0.0.12
Address: 10.0.0.12#53

** server can't find 16.105.168.192.in-addr.arpa: NXDOMAIN

I'm a little rusty here. Maybe it is in your forward zone that you need the period. For example:

Code:
busdev-test. A 192.168.105.16

OK, this is all my fault.

I forgot 1 period. What a waste of time.

the period goes after the .com portion

CORRECT -- 16 PTR busdev-test.*******.com.
INCORRECT -- 16 PTR busdev-test.*******.com
INCORRECT -- 16. PTR busdev-test.*******.com

SORRY TO ALL FOR WASTING YOUR TIME.

THANK YOU FORDECK FOR GETTING ME THINKING ABOUT THAT PERIOD. MUCH APPRECIATED.
