Okay, I know that it sounds like a lot, but the only machines that get use are, oddly enough that old P1 200 I have left from college, which I'm typing this on. 64Megs of RAM and a 15 inch monitor baby! and the laptop... The fastest machine in the house is more or less reserved for network games. Honestly Isa, when the money thing eases back a bit, pick up a P1 for $50 and have a play-crate. Kernel compiles take somewhere on the order of 15-18 minutes. That's brief enough so as to still be fun.

Dave, how about trying one of the BSDs? I downloaded it for kicks really. This ISO thing gets kind of addictive after a while. When I first put it on a laptop I couldn't really get PCMCIA to work, and I had a lot of other toys to play with, so I gave up too quickly. Other than that I have a lot of good things to say about Debian... if you like installing everything after you've installed everything.

Cheers,

Finegan

I'm thinking LFS or BSD

Gotta get back home to the high speed connection first.
