Not able to set Speed to 1000Mbs RHEL5.7

In RHEL 5.7 server not able change the speed from 100 to 1000Mbs. Issue exists on Intel and Broadcom NIC card

+ Server to switch cable replaced
+ Moved cable to different switchport [ 8 months back these 2 steps resolved similar issue for different servers ]
+ BIOS, Broadcom driver version upgraded
+ When I set "ethtool -s eth6 speed 1000 duplex full autonef on" the ETH6 interface goes down
+ Whereas I can set speed to 100Mbs.

+ There is another similar environment [ OS version, driver ] server in which its running with 1000Mbs.

have you contacted redhat tech support ?

you ARE paying them a ton of cash to lock your version at 5.7 ( 5.10 is the current in the older rhel5 series)

does the switch definitely support gigabit?

other than that, could be a hardware/compatibility issue with the switch or your NIC

Resolved

++ This issue was resolved after doing loop test in switch
++ During the loop test in switch we did auto with 1G.
++ The switch port came up with 1G

++ Removed the loop in switch
++ connected the cable to server and tested
++ Finally the ETH3 came up with 1G.

Earlier:
++ I've done BIOS, Driver upgrade on server but that doesn't resolved the issue.
