Not able install modem for fc6 1st time install

Newly installed fc6, GNOME. installed printer- no problem.
all working except unable install MODEM in the Network
section. keep getting error code "02" after pressing
"ACTIVATE" button. My windows/xp part works on with them
modem(using it here) it shows com4 port being used.
The FC6 GNOME has place to enter the "initialize
stream" (hayes commands...at....etc...). I have not
found those yet. Will enter them when I do.
Anyone know what I might try? I have actually 3 modems
I can use, went through 2 of them as mentioned above.

thanks in advance.....

Are you sure it is not a "winmodem", i.e. a modem that needs (Windows) drivers to be installed to work? If it is, you'll either have to hunt for special winmodem drivers for it on Linux, or switch it to a hardware modem ("winmodems" are also called "software modems" because they need extra software to be installed, because the modem does not have the software inside).

==============================================

Thanks for the information. I'll try that. I called the
modem manufacturer (trendware) they said they do not
believe my model "TFM-PCIV92) is compatable with linux.
Other information I found on Linux help sites mentioned
a configuration file (resolv.conf) needs to be edited
--it goes on with suggestion about what it should contain.
However I found that file in the /etc/ folder,
(/etc/resolv.conf) it;s empty. I tryed to edit it but no go.
When configuring a modem in the "internet setup section"
it susposed to enter the baud rate and speed etc..in there.

I thought a driver might be
the answer. Other wise the installation went okay. I set up
my printer okay(its a 12 year old Epson).

Thanks again

Resolv.conf is only a pointer for your DNS servers.
It does sounds like you need a driver for the modem.
