No programme but only KDE related can connct to Net
I am using SuSE Linux 9.2 with KDE 3.4.1 on both my desktop and laptop.
I have set up a network at home, using DSL-G604 Wireless ADSL Router. The desktop is connected via ethernet cable, the laptop via a wireless card.
Before I had to reconfigure the system after the router had been repaired (the manufacturer loaded new firmware), everything worked fine.
Now I have a bizarre problem: I can access everything on the net without problem using KDE software - konqueror, kmail.
Nothing else works!
I tried mozilla, which tells me after a while that the operation was timed out (I double checked the website, and konqueror opens it without problem). Same problem with the mozilla mail client.
I tried to do an online update with YAST, and YAST cannot dowload the list with the servers, i.e. not connect.
I tried to ping a website, and got the following result:
guru@Olympus:~> ping google.com.au
PING google.com.au (216.239.57.104) 56(84) bytes of data.
After this is only silence. That it was able to translate google into the IP address means that the DNS server (which is provided by the router, who gets it from my provider) must be working.
The same problem persists on both computers. I can connect between the two machines using various software, and that works fine. But only KDE gets out of the local network.
So something prevents everything but KDE from accessing the net. There will be a simple solution to make me feel stupid in the end, but I don't have a clue where to start looking.
Can anyone help, please.
Many thanks.
