No internet under Mandriva LE 2005 or Mandriva 2006
Can somebody please help a Linux noob? I installed both Mandriva LE and Mandriva 2006 and both distros have an issue with my NIC and therefore I am unable to connect to the internet. I have the intel pro 1000 pl NIC and it uses the e1000 driver which mandriva refuses to recognize. I have tried everything and nothing works.
I was told this is an ongoing problem and I need to upgrade to kernel 2.6.16 to solve this problem, (current kernel 2.6.12) how can I update the kernel without connecting to the internet? I know nothing about compiling a new kernel so if someone could tell me where to get the precompiled updated kernel and how to install it that would be great. Thanks, Akoni |
Sorry, but you can't get the updated kernel without an internet connection. Try checking the Mandriva website - maybe they have something about where you can get kernel updates?

Sorry I should have been more specific. I have an internet connection unders Windows so is it not possible for me to download all the patches for the kernel and update through the Patch -p command?

Oh, well then you can just download the patches and put them on a USB drive (or just read them directly from the Windows partition, if it's mounted), copy them to your Linux partition, and apply them.
