NO CARRIER Error

Hello

I am using US Robotics 56K Message Modem ( External Serial ) for many years to connect my windows xp and suse linux. It worked fine both for xp and linux and still works fine with windows xp.But recently it has started giving me NO CARRIER ERROR with linux ( e.g suse 9.3,mandriva 2005,WBEL..rather every distro).

I have checked my phone line, checked and reset my modem to factory settings with modem commands but nothing will work.I am lost how and what can fix this error.

can someone please help me in this regard?

I shall be grateful,

Regards,

aventiskhan
