NIS server

I installed NIS server and I get expected lines from the passwd file when I type the command,
ypcat passwd
But the when I try the command
ypchfn someUserName
I get the result
yppasswdd is not running in the NIS server
same goes for the commands
ypchsh
ypmatch

When the following command in the server
service yppasswdd status
I get the result that yppasswdd is running

Where have I done wrong. I configured RHES 4 running computer according to a book wriiten for RHES 3 version. Would that course a problem?

Do a ps aux and see if the rpc.yppasswdd program is running. I'm not sure how Red hat does it but there might be some extra configuration to do in the ypserv init script to start it up. You can also start it up by hand. Read the man page for rpc.yppasswdd for more details.
