Question NIS problems with mailserver

Hi,

I need some advice about using NIS with email accounts and after searching the web I am still confused...

I would like to be able to use the passwords stored on my main server for authenticating pop3 accounts on my mail server. I have set a NIS domain and can now use the main server to authenticate user accounts from the mailserver. If I send an email locally from the server the message can be picked via pop by the user. Everything seems fine until I attempt to send mail to the user from a remote location - the mail server rejects the mail with a 'User unknown' message. When I put an entry for the user in the password file the message is delivered fine but the password is from the mailserver and no longer through NIS. How do I use NIS passwords instead?
