NIS and Mandrake

Howdy.

I'm trying to setup NIS. I've got everything going just fine with the SuSE machines, but I've got a Mandrake machine (I think it's 9.2) that's not acting the way I want it too. It see the NIS servers and users can log on and everything. But here's the problem. Any user listed in NIS is able to log onto this Mandrake machine without an entry in /etc/passwd. The passwd file doesn't have '+::::::' or '+username::::::' in it. I thought this was a requirement for NIS to work? And even if I do put '+username1::::::' into /etc/passwd, user username2 can still log in via NIS; it makes no difference.

Anyone know why this is and\or where I can shut this feature off?

Thank you!!!

To specifically disable access to username2 in your NIS client you can create a /etc/passwd entry like:
username2:*:::::

The authentication process should take the first entry it finds for username2, and not bother your NIS server for the valid username2 entry

No suggestions for the general case, other than to setup a separate NIS server for systems with restricted access.
