Nightmare with WinXp and SMB 3

Hi there,

I am having the worlds worst nightmare with trying to get my Win XP Prof machine to write to my Fedora Core 4 box.

I can see the shares, but I can't write to them - accessing any files in there is ok.

I dont seem to be able to send the passwords either from either machine, so I really do not know what to do!!! I have been like this for a couple of weeks now

TIA

I'm not quite sure what you mean by that... It asks for password but doesn't accept it??

In any case, could you post your smb.conf in there? It would be really useful.

Hi

All I have done is used the script from the SAMBA 3 How To:

[global]
workgroup = BTS
netbios name = PENFOLD
security = SHARE

[data]
comment = Data
path = /export
force user = john
force group = users
read only = No
guest ok = Yes

I went right back to basics and followed the instructions and still I do not get any read write access.

TIA

try adding "writable = yes" to your share options and then restart samba.

In /etc/samba/ your should have a file named smb.conf.example that contain lot of example, if you want to take a look at it.

Yes I tried that, and I get:

Unable to create folder
Unable to create folder 'New Folder'
Access is Denied.

Is there some magic patch I can apply to the XP Reg?

It has nothing to do with your XP client, there is just something wrong about samba. What are the permission of the folder in Linux? Try to "chmod 777 folder" and see if this help.

No, nothing still the same error. I have made sure the directory was set to 777.

I have the user john in both the samba password file and the smbusers - I am at a total loss
:\
