Unhappy NICS not coming up with new Kernel

OK! I've had my Red Hat linux firewall box up for about a year, it's worked very good for me. I use it to do my ipchains and ipmasq.

Well, I want to do iptables and NAT now and I thought it was time to upgrade. Well, I upgraded my Red Hat linux 6.2 with kernel 2.2.14 to Red Hat Linux 7.0 with kernel 2.2.16. Everything went fine, actually went good.

So afterward, I downloaded the newest "stable" kernel 2.4.17. I built it, compiled it, and everything seemed fine. I made my changes to lilo and rebooted.

Everything looked good. Everything worked except my NICS!! The most important thing! I have 2 PCMICA Xircom cards, i looked at the message file and says:

modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module eth0

Can someone tell me how to install the NIC module? or what i hav to do?

Thanks, Jim

Cbeebies!

did you ensure you compiled the driver as module (M in config)? check that the driver was made and installed

/lib/modules/2.4.17/kernel/drivers/net/thatmodule.o

(i think that'd be the rigth path). It may also be the case that newer driver might have changed name or similar, if it was substantially changed since 2.2.x, in that case you'd need to sort out the entry in /etc/modules.conf
