NIC generates random timout periods

Hi all,
I've got a strange issue on a server of mine.
The problem is that the NIC generates timeouts for several minutes and then some time it's ok.
During the timout block it's not giving one continues timeout but randomly timeous for short periods, and during that the server response is very low, probably due to all the timeouts it generates.
I've got 2 ip's on that NIC and the second ip sometimes just seems to be down and not responding at all.
These timeout blocks apear randomly and the duration is also random from about a minute to several minutes.

Does someone know what the problem might be and how to fix it?
The server runs Fedora Core 2, with Linux 2.6.10-2.3.legacy_FC2smp kernel

Thanks.

It looks like it's over for the moment, yesterday I've been monitoring about all day and it didn't happen again.
Got no idea what is was or what it was causing but somehow it's gone for the moment.

But yes it looks like that.
eth0 - gives randomized timouts several minutes, and than a period it's ok
eth0:1 - is randomly not available, or gives one continues timout, not randomly like eth0
eth1 - same as eth0
eth1:1 -same as eth0:1
