NFS write problem, UID correct, rw in /etc/exports -but still cannot write

I have tried all the solutions I can find but still no success, so I wonder if anyone can help me.

I have 2 Linux machines both running openSUSE 10.3
The server is set up to share some directories and these can be read from the other machine, but the client cannot write.
One share is in /home/fred/docs and fred on the client cannot write (fred on both machine has the same UID)
Another share is in /home/share owned by share:users
Neither can be written to.
I have checked the /etc/exports file on the server & this has rw for all the shares.

Can anyone help?

Things that matter:

a) remote file system are exported read/write
b) remove file system directory paths are read/writable/execute
c) file system mount point read/write/execute
d) UIDs are the same
e) no UID remapping is performed
f) remote file system and disk is writable

thanks for the reply. I think I've done everything listed. The properties on both remote and client show read/write/execute. The mount point is the same. The UIDs are the same. Not sure how to check for UID remapping, but I have checked with id command on both boxes, and UIDs & group are showing as the same.
I have vainly tried disabling the firewall, but thats not the problem.

I am stumped.
Anything else I can check?
