NFS + netapp filer + redhat 8 = rpc timed out..why??

i have a netapp filer running nfs server and a redhat 8 client trying to mount the filer file system. the exports have been properly shared on the netapp filer and are being correctly mounted using an NFS client for windows (diskaccess). but i cant seem to be able to mount it on my redhat 8. i do it like this:
[root@phantom etc]# mount 172.16.50.145:/ /mnt/filer
mount: RPC: Timed out

this is the result of rpcinfo -p
[root@phantom etc]# rpcinfo -p
program vers proto port
100000 2 tcp 111 portmapper
100000 2 udp 111 portmapper
100024 1 udp 1024 status
100024 1 tcp 1024 status

100005 1 tcp 1026 mountd
100005 2 udp 1027 mountd
100005 2 tcp 1026 mountd
100005 3 udp 1027 mountd
100005 3 tcp 1026 mountd

rpc timed out because ip-number not resovled to a hostname

The 172.16.50.145 ip numbers must resolve to a hostname.
So make sure that the ip numbers and hostnames are in the
/etc/hosts file on the nfs server and ass well ass on the nfsclient computer's /etc/hosts file

Or use a dns server on your network.

With regards
