nfs freezing computer

Hi there.

NFS starts transfer speeds at around 15mb/s. It then quickly slows to 1.2 to 2 mb/s. Then, there is a freeze. During this freeze, I can't move my mouse or type. Any playing audio/video freezes.

However, this only occurs when transferring in one direction.

Client: Laptop: Ubuntu Edgy - Wireless G
Server: Desktop: Debian Etch - Cabled (10/100)

When transferring from the client to the server, I get the freezes.

When transferring from the server to the client, I get constant transfer speeds of 11mb/s.

I have no idea how to fix this. I thank you for your knowledgeable assistance.

~Dave

what NFS packages did you install? you will need portmap nfs-common and nfs-kernel-server (for the server)

what NFS options are you using?

I did, in fact, install those packages exactly. I have used a variety of options. On the server, I am currently using:

rw,async,no_root_squash

It doesn't help to change to sync.

On the client, which is a wireless machine, I am mounting with the options:

tcp,rw,user,noauto,rsize=1024,wsize=1024

It doesn't help to change the rsize or wsize.

I only get the freezing when writing to the server from the client. When reading from the server, there are no errors.

Thanks for the reply.
