New wireless connection not showing in the list of connections at the top right panel

I'm using Ubuntu 9.10. I wanted to share my laptop internet connection with another laptop. For this, I created a new connection, gave :

SSID as PHOTON
Mode : Ad-hoc
Security : none
IPV4 : Shared by other computers

I clicked "connect automatically" and "available to all users". The connection on the other computer was successfully established, and we both could access the net. But since then, something happened and now when I create the connection by following the exact same steps, the connection name doesn't appear on the top right corner of the screen, though networking, wireless are both enabled. I actually deleted the Auto PHOTON named connection that automatically appeared in the wireless tab. I don't know what wrong I am doing.
